Code Enforcement

The Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is located at 201 Blacksnake Road. The FMO is staffed by Fire Marshal, Rusty Graham. The FMO is charged with the responsibility of fire code enforcement in the Town of Stanley.

Fire Inspection

The FMO annually inspects commercial, industrial and public buildings for fire hazards. The Fire Marshal’s Office enforces the current edition of the North Carolina International Fire Code. Annual fire inspections are performed on Stanley businesses. In addition to permits issued by Gaston County Building Department, the Fire Marshal’s Office issues permits and conducts plan reviews and inspections for the Fire Code compliance on new construction, alterations or change in use and installation or alteration of fire and life safety systems. Permits are also issued to maintain, store, use or handle materials, or to conduct processes which produce conditions hazardous to life or property, or to install equipment used in connection with such activities.

Fire protection equipment such as fire alarms, sprinkler systems, commercial cooking equipment, etc. are required to have an annual inspection and test. Inspections and tests for commercial hood systems are to be completed by qualified individuals on a semi-annual basis. Inspection and test reports are required to be sent to the fire department.

New Construction

By permit, fire and life safety plan reviews and inspections are conducted on all new construction projects in the Town of Stanley. Permits are also issued for all fire alarms and sprinkler systems installed in Stanley.

Fire Permits

Applicants for permits shall be made to the Fire Department on a form provided by the Fire Department and accompanied with two sets of plans and specifications and other information as may be deemed necessary to determine compliance with fire and life safety codes and standards.
