Beautification Committee Raising Funds for Town Improvements

Dear Residents, Business Owners and Patrons of Stanley:

As many of you know, the Town adopted a Master Plan and Development Guidelines, for Downtown Stanley, in February of this year. This plan includes beautification of Main Street, proposal of a public space for concerts and gatherings, adjustments to parking, redevelopment of existing buildings and numerous other items that will enhance our downtown – central business district.

One of the first steps to giving our little Town a facelift was replacing the welcome signs at each end of Highway 27. The next was establishing a Beautification Committee to identify, prioritize, fundraise and execute projects around Town. Over the past several months, the Beautification Committee and staff have been working behind the scenes to get some of these projects going. The Town’s consultant, Auggie Wong, with CMW Design Strategies, PLLC, has been hard at work applying for grants and preparing an application for Main Street status. His work will open the doors to funding for large projects. The Beautification Committee has been hard at work identifying smaller projects that can make a big difference now; you may have already noticed new plants at the welcome signs.

Over the coming months, the Beautification Committee will be fundraising for several projects that will enhance our Downtown. Their largest effort will be to purchase a beautiful, large Christmas tree. The Committee hopes to raise enough funds to purchase the tree to use this year and have for many, many years to come. Additional projects will include updating planter boxes , installing new trash cans and planning a community cleaning day.

To make a tax-deductible, charitable donation to the Beautification Committee, checks may be written to Stanley Town Revitilization Corporation with a memo of “Beautification Committee”. Checks may be mailed to Town of Stanley, PO Box 279, Stanley, NC 28164.

We thank you for your support of our efforts to revitalize downtown!

-Mayor & Mrs. Denton
